In Memoriam William “Bill” Johnston

Bill Johnston (1)
Bill & Mary
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. II. Corinthians 5:8

Attorney William “Bill” Johnston embodied what a Christian attorney should be. Active in church his entire life, Bill lived a life where he gave generously. He gave not only of his resources, but of his time and talent. He was a trusted mentor, colleague, and friend to the attorneys at Thompson Steward Flecha, LLC for many years. For years, Bill served as Of Counsel to our firm, in its different iterations, and our attorneys have served as Of Counsel to his practice for the last nine years. We hold his wife, Pamela, and their lovely family in high esteem.

Bill was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1945. He graduated from Worthington High School, the Ohio State University, and the OSU School of Law. While attending OSU he was a four year Varsity O Tennis Player. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, worked for a local law firm, appeared and licensed in the United States Supreme Court, became Chairman of the Industrial Commission in the state of Ohio, and celebrated forty-six years as an attorney before retiring.

Bill served on many boards of non-profit agencies in Ohio and across the nation. He was best known for his generosity, stories, photography, love of airplanes, golf, travel, and Oreos.

Although he knew his health was failing, his commitment to his clients and his strong work ethic made it possible for him to work until a week before he passed away. Bill went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2016.
We count ourselves truly blessed to have been mentored by Bill, a legal giant who enjoyed a tremendous and respected career. Rest in peace.
